POPULATION

Population per county was calculated from the 2020 Census Summary File 1, Table PCT12 provided by the California State Data Center. Two adjustments were made to the census data to make it consistent with the other datasets (i.e., CHIS prevalence estimates, the health outcomes estimates, and the CDC cost calculator). First, the ethnicity categories available from Census were more detailed than what is available from CHIS, the CDC Calculator, or the health outcomes data. To make the data consistent, the number of individuals who report as AIAN, MR, or NHPI were combined to create an ‘Other Ethnicities’ category. This was done by age, gender, and age group. Second, the upper age range for the population estimates (which went from 80 to 100 years of age) was combined into a single category: 80+. This was done by gender and ethnic group. The resulting data included:

• Estimate medical expenditures at the state level separately by insured population for the following select chronic diseases:

• Females and males/other

• 58 counties/regions

• Available by individual counties (58), multiple counties, or by regions
• Regions include:

• Bay Area counties
• Northern and Sierra counties
• Sacramento area counties
• San Joaquin Valley counties
• Los Angeles County
• Other Southern California counties

• 63 ages

• Ages 18 to 80+

• 5 Ethnicities

• Asian
• Non-Hispanic White
• African American
• Hispanic
• Other ethnicities
• Diabetes
